Sports historian/feature story writer/author/syndicated columnist/singer-songwriter Alan Ross, a graduate of Fordham University, is editor of Texas Profile, a monthly insert into American Profile, the nation’s fourth largest weekly magazine. He is a former editor for Walnut Grove Press, Athlon Sports Communications, and Professional Team Publications.
Ross’s feature stories have landed on more than 25 covers of American Profile, and his articles on sports history have appeared in The Sporting News, Lindy’s, NFL.com, Athlon Sports, The Coffin Corner, Athletic Administration, GAMEDAY, NFL Insider, and the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and San Diego Chargers media and fan publications. In addition, Ross generates a weekly syndicated column on NASCAR racing to 64 community newspapers. Formerly he served as history columnist for Titans Exclusive, the official fan publication of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans (1998-2000), and for three years wrote auto racing features on the Team Lowe’s 31 car for Track Record magazine.
Ross has authored 26 books, 23 of them on sports, including The Red Sox Century, I Remember Reggie White, and Lakers Glory. He co-authored Love Is Forever with Caroline, his wife of 12 years — a book that sold over 30,000 copies.
A frequent guest on sports-talk radio shows, Ross has appeared on the nationally syndicated Prime Sports Radio Network and Sportfan Radio Network, as well as the Arizona Cardinals radio network. In the mid-1970s, he wrote ’Twas a Week When…, a weekly poem of the week’s sports news for The (Nashville) Tennessean.
A former 13-year advertising agency creative director, Ross wrote and produced musical jingles for advertising for more than 30 years, garnering over 70 creative excellence awards, including CLIO finalist recognition three times.
Concurrently, Ross enjoys an on-going 41-year music career as a singer/songwriter, dating back to his early folk days in Greenwich Village in the mid-1960s.
